Following our week in Annecy, we headed south by coach, via Avignon, to Villefranche Sur Mer, an historic town between Nice and Monaco on the Côte d’Azur
Villefranche Sur Mer Sculpture by the sea
Enjoying the scenery – Annecy to Ville Franche sur mer
Pondering history – a Kronenbourg, Exile on Main Street and Villa Nellcote straight across the Bay.
A happy man with a half bottle of Chianti not so Classico
Eleanor and a plate of Mediterranean delicacies.
Our Hotel balcony was a hard place to leave.
A quiet little square slowly transformed, by workmen and passing tour groups, to a place of confused chaos, but we pressed on with confidence and determination.
Cocteau sculpture near the little church he decorated.
All of life’s luxuries packed into a spare plot of (very expensive) land.
Negresco, Nice – Where Isadora Duncan fell victim to a long scarf and a Bugatti in 1927.
Fantastic Paintings – no photos inside – see it if you are in Antibes
John – love your easel. Where is it from? Can I purchase in UK. Mine is too big and cumbersome and a pain to erect!
Hi Sarah,
The easel is one I made using a manfrotto tripod – couldn’t find one small and light enough. You can find details on this post – https://splashingpaintblog.com/2010/02/02/traveling-art-material-list/
Cheers,
John
What a wonderful place.
Oh, please show us some of your demos! The scenes you have shown in these recent French photos seem to me to need your eye to weed out and focus in…
Your pics are beautiful lovely to see you all at work, am off to South of France in a few weeks you have all inspired me🌅
My husband and I spend two weeks in Villefranche every year. It is without a doubt the most beautiful village in the south of France although we love Nice and Antibes. We just left a few weeks ago and your pictures make me homesick.
I love little lambikins – the butcher shop “mascot”. How cute is that! Much better than pigs heads with lemons in the mouth and parsley in the ears.
