SKETCHBOOKS & JOURNALS

There is nothing like a collection of old sketchbooks, diaries and journals to fire up the imagination and generate ideas. This article examines these often neglected resources.

  1. So great to get an article from you again, John. And this is a favorite topic for me. I might be an obsessive lover of sketch book work. Years ago when art school required that we go to see a John Constable exhibition, many of the class did not go. The idea of his big finished canvases did not appeal to everyone. From that exhibition I learn t to always look for the sketchbook work which hopefully makes it to an exhibition, along with the artists other work. His little sketch pads and his sketch paintings were so inspiring. I think you really meet an artist in the sketch work, so I enjoy the sketches you have let us look at in this article.
